This video was recommended to me, and I honestly just can't get enough of it. Mia is the cutest baby in the world, but this little Charlie holds a dear space in my heart.

I don't know anything about metacafe, and while it might be a very savory and wholesome site, I don't want anyone's ears being blasphemed on my conscience if it isn't.)

Online Classes
About two weeks ago, Shelton found out that he needed a measly 5 credits to apply for a Smart Grant (a grant for science/math majors). According to BYU, he has enough credits, but for this particular grant, AP credits don't count as "true" credits to the government, who is the actual provider of the grant. That really long explanation boils down to the fact that Shelton has to finish two online courses in about one month. He's taking two humanities courses that he saved for his senior year.
He likes to complain that he is a scientifically minded fellow, and all of the emotional laden texts that he has to read are mumbo jumbo, but I think that he secretly likes some of them. Anyway, an assignment for one of the courses was to go create something, and then write about the creative process that occurred. Shelton made a hat for Mia on one of my hat looms for his project.

He even made a little "M" to go on it.
She was a pretty good sport about modeling it for us.

A mild obsession
Can anyone tell me why I feel compelled to check Craigslist every single day of my life? Am I looking for anything? No. Do I need anything? No again. Can I afford anything that I don't absolutely need? That's three negatives. I think I struck out.
When all the world is green!
We are pretty lucky that we live close to several parks, because Mia and I (and Shelton when he isn't too busy) love love love to go to the park.
I like to bring a book... occasionally Mia will let me read a page or two.
But mostly she just wants to gossip about all of the people we know.
One of my favorite things is grass that is really soft and tender. Because of the somewhat harsh climate in Utah, the grass here tends to be all pokey, sharp, dry and not at all fun to lay on. If, however, you find a park with ample shade, you can sometimes find a spot of grass that is just perfect.... like the grass that Mia is laying on in this picture. She knows a good things when she sees it. If I could just stop her from trying to eat it we'd be set.

What kind of word is "Goatee" anyway?
I just perused my facebook account, and there was an add on the side for a "Goatee Shaving Template." Are you serious? A template? The add followed with these tempting words: "This goatee shaving template will make your goatee look perfect, eliminate goatee shaving guesswork, and reduce goatee grooming time."
This was just too good for me to pass up. I followed the link and found this priceless site, where you can view the goatee saver in three dimensions, watch an incredibly detailed instructional film, and visit the FAQ page complete with the answer to such burning questions as "How can I adjust the goatee saver mouthpiece?" Please, please watch the video.
My life has been unequivocally altered.

Hungry?
Mia, Shelton and I went to Dr. Johnson's Pediatric Clinic on Friday. Aside from the Marge-in-Charge nurse who gave Mia her shots, it was a really positive visit. (I should cut the nurse some slack. I probably wouldn't be a sweetheart either if I had to inject hepatitis into innocent children all day. Did she really have to charge at Mia like that though?) Mia is 12 pounds, 8 ounces and 24 inches long. She's in about the same percentile ranges that she was before (25th for weight, 40th for length, and 50th for head circumference). She meets or exceeds all of the developmental milestones for her age group, and the doctor gave me some really good sleep advice.
He also okay'd Mia to start on semi-solids. Here is the play by play.

Ah, what's that stuff? Can I smell it?

Nope, nah-uh. You thought you were gonna pull a fast one on me, but I'm on to you.
Oh, fine, I'll try it, as long as you let me chew on that blue thing too.
I'm not so sure about this stuff. Did you check to make sure it was FDA approved?

Definitely not my style
There is something strange happening to me.
(Chew... chew... gulp, swallow) Maybe it's not so bad after all. Let me think about it for a second.
Hmm.... This could work for me.
Yes, YES!

I think she likes it.

Some Kind of Wife
This was found by my brother on his way to work. I apologize for the somewhat graphic comments on the sides. I'm not sure who wrote them, but they are almost as hilarious as the actual article. You can click on the images to enlarge them.

I just looked this article up online to see if I could find a clearer copy. Wikipedia conceeds that it might be a hoax, but I don't care. Sorry Shelton, if this is what you were expecting when we got married.

Sitting Sweetheart
Colorado Crazies
Shelton, Mia and I have spent the last week and a half or so with my family in Colorado Springs. It was the first official Taylor family reunion. I brought along the old HP thinking that I might do some blogging while I was there, but as you might have guessed, that didn't really happen. Since we've been home, I decided that I wanted to have my house in better order before I let myself do the fun task of blogging. My house still isn't clean, and it's been almost a week.... hang the laundry, right?
My brother has a pretty nice home, and we snuggly fit all 20 of us crazies in . I don't think that I ever really realize how much I have missed my family until I actually see them. How in the world did my mother survive the raising of 6 children? So far I've only got Mia and I'm pretty sure a significant measure of my sanity is already gone. What a woman. Anyway, it was so great to see everyone. My brother had everything pretty planned out and we managed to squeeze in some pretty fun stuff while we were there... swimming, golfing (for the fellows), manicures and pedicures (for the ladies), shopping, frisbee, baseball, family pictures, fishing, some mad settlers and scum games, a testimony meeting, and quite a few trips down memory lane. I can't wait to see everyone again. We're hoping to all get together at my parents' for Christmas, but we'll see how that works out.
I conveniently lost my camera the day after we got there, and found it the day that we left. It's okay though, because we counted up the pictures that everyone ELSE took, and we have somewhere in the neighborhood of 2000. Yes, you read that right. My dad is going to put them all on a DVD and send them to the sibs. You'd better WATCH OUT if you read the old blog on the day that I get them, because I might overload the blogger server with Taylor Family Reunion Pictures.
For now, here are a few that I was able to capture.

My brother Marc and his wife met Mia for the first time.
As usual, Mia suffered from a lack of attention.

My mom brought a bag of goodies for all the granddaughters. Jazzie especially loved the lip balm.

On the last full day in Colorado, some of the more adventurous went fishing for a second time. The kids caught some crawdads, and were expressly forbidden to bring them home. Somehow (and I really don't know how) they ended up at the house after all, that the culprits were found to be my nephews Adam and Eric. As punishment, the uncles made the boys eat them.

Adam Later threw up.
