The cursed blogger

I think that I have a case of the cursed blogger. Every time that I sit down to post pictures or write, something traumatic happens (ok, so maybe not traumatic, but at least dramatic enough to pull me away from the keyboard). :) Maybe I'll try making shorter posts from now on... perhaps I will be more successful. Anyway, here are a few of the happenings in the Knudsen household.

Shelton's family spent their Spring Break with us this past week. I don't think I realized what a sweet experience it would be to introduce our little girl to her grandparents.

Shelton and the fam taking advantage of the late snows. (Mia declined to go on this trip.... she didn't want to show anyone up).

In all of the literature that I have read about parenting a newborn there has always been at least one consistent piece of advice: Sleep when your newborn sleeps. What they neglect to mention however is that somehow, the second your baby closes her eyes, people start doing fun and interesting things. The pictures below were taken of us plawhen I should have been asleep, but everyone was just too interesting
Dayley (Shelton's little brother) is victorious!

It is inexplicably calming to hold Mia's little hands.

Have you ever taken a picture, and it just doesn't look like you? Well, I don't think that this picture really looks like Mia, but it's so darn cute anyway that I had to post it anyway.

So I read somewhere that babies' hair is supposed to fall out eventually... Well, Mia's hasn't. In fact, I think that it is growing. This picture reminds me a little bit of Alfalfa from the Little Rascals.

I love these socks.
Mia is awake more and more these days. I've tried to "play" with her since day one, but it's just recently that she seems to enjoy looking at the toys that I place in front of her.
I love this picture because it shows the look tha is most often on her face as I talk to her... very wide eyed bewilderment.

And finally, some pictures of Mia and I playing dress up. (I guess it's actually more of me playing dressup, and Mia briefly tolerating me). Notice how she enjoys the photo shoot less and less as time goes on.

Well, I think that is about all there is time to post for now. I'll try to post more frequently from now on. Love to everyone!

Belly Buttons

Mia's umbilical cord has fallen off! From a technical vantage point, all this means is that she can now take baths that involve more than just a sponge, but to me it is a huge milestone. She has a belly-button! She still has a little residual pokey-outey spot, but still, a real belly button!

I'm afraid that my time to post is pretty limited, and I know that all people really want to see are pictures, so I'd better get to them . :)

My belly button! (PS- I tried to edit this but just messed it up... sorry for the graphic nature of the photo)

So, I'm pretty sure that I haven't slept for more than a two hour stretch in nearly two weeks, and I can only remember sleeping the two hours once when my mom was here. Shelton has had a pretty stressful semester (since Mia was born he's had a ten page paper due, three exams, plus the regular homework load). With that in mind, I have really tried to make sure he gets at least some sleep, but I realized this morning as he poured water in his cereal that he hasn't been getting as much as I hoped he had. Mini-Wheats anyone?

My little sister Amber is on break from her senior year and has come to stay up here in Utah for awhile to see the fam and also to get things settled for her first year of college!

Mia has a pretty hard life these days.
Notice the fuzzy hair. Evidence of the double cowlicks she inherited from her daddy.

Mia!

Shelton and I are happy to announce that our baby girl has finally arrived! She made her way into the world at 6:28 am on March 4th. She weighed in at 6 lbs 11.6 oz and 19 inches long. I can't even tell you how amazing (and relieving) it is to finally have her here.

She is officially one week old today! I thought that I would be a little better about taking and posting pictures than I have been, but honestly, I'm just happy to report that we have survived! :) Who knew that such a little person could use so many diapers? My mom came up from Arizona to help us out as we figure out how to be parents, and I don't think that we could have made it without her. I don't know how in the world I am going to keep up with everyday life when she leaves. Things that I used to think were just a part of life- like taking a shower, using the restroom when I'd like to etc are now luxuries that I can only sometimes afford. :)

Despite the sleep deprivation and stained shirts, we love this little girl! I sometimes feel overwhelmed as I look at her and think of how lucky we are to have her in our lives. Thank you to everyone who has offered help and support both tangibly and emotionally! She's waking up, so I'd better go, but enjoy some of the pictures that we've taken!

Her first glimpse of the world, in the capable hands of Dr. Dewey.

The two most important people in my life. Evaluations.
Not sure what to do about the whole "light" thing. Doesn't she look mad? :)
I'm not sure why I like this picture so much. I think that it might be her chunky cheeks.
Birthweight.
I don't think it gets much better than this.
Our little family together for the first time. (Is my IV supposed to do that??)

Grams welcoming her 9th grandchild.

I did it!
Hopefully she'll grow into liking clothes.
Snuggling with Aunt Camila

Hanging out with Uncle Jimmy

Making the most of our hospital stay. Poor Shelton got to sleep in the chair.
I love her facial expressions when she sleeps
My great friend Sarah visiting us from the ICU whwew she works.

Getting ready to go home for the 1st time

An early aversion to car seats

It's a tradition in my family for my mom to give the grandchildren their first baths.

You'd never know it to look at this picture, but she really has learned to like baths.

She survived!

Looking cute in a new swing from Grams. The great outfit is from Beth Gordon (Thanks!) It's one of the few that fits her cute little body.
I think our record for keeping a hat/bow on her is like 4 minutes.

These are my favorite moments with her. She's so cuddly.
I tried to take some week old photos of her. I wish they did her a little more justice.
I always try to figure out what she is thinking when her eyes get as wide as they are in this picture.
Peek a Boo!
I love this little Girl!!!!!!!

I think that's all that there's time for me to post at the moment. Love to all of you!
